If you are an EU citizen, there are no visa requirements when entering Ireland.

If you are not an EU citizen please contact your nearest Irish Embassy or Consulate to find out whether or not you require an entry visa or you may enquire from the Department of Foreign Affairs.


Tourist Visa

Nationals of the following countries do not require a visa when entering as a tourist: Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Barbados, Brunei, Bolivia, Brazil, The Bahamas, Botswana, Belize, Canada, Switzerland, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominica, Egypt, Fiji, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Croatia, Israel, Iceland, Japan, Kiribati, Saint Kitts and Nevis, North Korea, South Korea, Saint Lucia, Liechtenstein, Lesotho, Monaco, Mauritius, Maldives, Malawi, Mexico, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Norway, Nauru, New Zealand, Panama, Seychelles, Singapore, San Marino, Somalia, El Salvador, Swaziland, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, United States, Uruguay, Vatican City, Venezuela, British Virgin Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa, South Africa

Please note that, it is possible for international students who require a visa and are residing in certain countries to apply directly to the Department of Foreign Affairs online. A full list of these countries and the link to the online application form is available at www.inis.gov.ie

Please note that, although applications may be made through the Department of Foreign Affairs, the decision on visa applications will be made by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

Important: Apply for your visa well in advance and allow six to eight weeks for your application to be processed if you are applying from abroad.


Required documents for visa application

You will need to provide the following with your visa application. (Please remember, original documents are required and must be in English or accompanied by a notarised translation):

  • Letter of acceptance from a recognised school/college/university in Ireland confirming that you have been accepted on a course of study. This course of study must be full-time (lasting an academic year) and have a minimum of 15 hours per week study time.
  • Evidence of your academic ability to pursue the chosen course through the English language (unless it is an English language course).
  • Evidence that the fees for the course have been paid in full.
  • Evidence that you have enough funds (€7,000) to maintain yourself for the initial part of your stay.
  • Evidence that you or a sponsor have access to at least €7,000 for each subsequent year of your studies, in addition to the course fees for each of those years.
  • Evidence that you have private medical insurance
  • An explanation of any gaps in your educational history
  • Confirmation that you intend to return to your country of permanent residence when you leave Ireland.

  • Multiple-journey visa: €100
