Scholarships & Funding Information

There are a small number of scholarships for overseas students are available from the universities and colleges themselves; however the Department of Education and Science also has a limited number of scholarships. Application must be made through their own Ministries of Education or Foreign Affairs. The forms are available each year in February.

Czech Republic
The Irish Government offers two scholarships to Czech graduates to study at Universities or institutes of higher education in Ireland
China
The Irish Government offers three scholarships to Chinese postgraduate students for study/research at a university or institute of higher education. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a non-profit institution affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The objective of the CSC is to provide financial assistance to the Chinese citizens wishing to study abroad and to the foreign citizens wishing to study in China in order to develop the educational, scientific and technological, and cultural exchanges and economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries, to strengthen the friendship and understanding between Chinese people and the people of all other countries, and to promote world peace and the socialist modernization drive in China. Finland
The Irish Government offers two scholarships to enable Finnish graduates of any faculty to study at a third level institution of education in Ireland.
France
La Fondation Irlandaise gives a residential language scholarships in Paris July/August 2009 Governing body of the Irish College, invites applications for ten scholarships in summer 2009 aimed at those who wish to improve their French language skills for professional purposes. Scholarships are for one month with accommodation in the College, attendance at an approved course and a stipend of €700. The closing date for receipt of applications is 31 January 2009 and successful applicants will be notified by end February.

Greece
The Irish Government offers one scholarship to enable a Greek graduate to study at a third level institution of education in Ireland
Italy
The Irish Government offers four one-year academic scholarships to Italian graduates for study or research at a third level institution.
Japan
The Government of Ireland offers three scholarships to Japanese graduates to study at a third level institution of education in Ireland. The Canon Foundation in Europe grants up to 15 Research Fellowships annually to highly qualified European and Japanese researchers. The Fellowships are awarded for periods of a minimum three months and maximum of one year. Applications for Research Fellowships in all fields of research are welcome. The aim of the Foundation is to contribute to international understanding, in particular between Europe and Japan. Candidates should hold a doctorate or at least a Master's degree. They are eligible during the ten-year period following the successful completion of their Ph.D or MA degree.
Malaysia

Mexico
The Irish government offers two scholarships to Mexican graduates to study in an Irish third level institution of education. Netherlands
The Irish Government offer two scholarships to Dutch graduates to study at an Irish third level institution of education.
Norway
The Irish Government offers one academic year and one four month scholarship to Norwegian graduates to study at an Irish third level institution of education. The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen) The State Education Loan Fund (Statens Lånekasse for Utdanning) offers a scholarship of NOK 15.000 for a so-called preparatory language course ("Forberedende språkkurs") to Norwegian students who are studying at least ½ year at a university outside of Norway where they do not give their lessons in English. http://www.lanekassen.no Other scholarship resources: Legathåndboken

Russia
The Government of Ireland offers two scholarship to Russian graduates to study or do research at a third level institution of education in Ireland.
Spain
Becas MED El Ministerio de educación español comenzó en 2007 a conceder becas para estudiar en el extranjero para alumnos de entre 18 y 30 años, que disfrutaban de becas universitarias. Estas becas se aplican a cursos de inglés, francés y alemán, para estudiar entre los meses de junio a septiembre inclusive. El curso debe ser de un mínimo de 15 horas de clase de inglés semanales con al menos 3 semanas de duración, entre el 1 de junio y el 30 de noviembre de 2009. El MEC ha aprobado 25000 ayudas de 1700 euros cada una para estudiar inglés en el extranjero. El curso debe estar prepago o realizar una reserva con un prepago mínimo de 200 euros. Sweden
The National Board of Student Aid (CSN - Centrala Studiestöds Nämnden) offers study assistance to Swedish citizens attending long-term language courses / schools. The student must be a Swedish citizen The school must be approved by the Swedish educational authorities The language course must have a minimum duration of 13 weeks, 45 weeks maximum (26 weeks maximum for English) The language course must be of minimum 20 hours/week The language course must contain a final test or exam The student must be present in at least 80% of the classes European languages are to be learnt in Europe. The study assistance or CSN scholarship consists of two components - a student grant and a loan. The grant was a fixed amount of SEK 572 per week in 2002. The loan depends on which country the language course takes place, approximately SEK 1.500 per week. In addition you may apply for a tuition fee loan of SEK 1.350 per week and financial support for your travel to the destination. Scholarship: Spain: 1.518 + 572 = 2.090 per week. Switzerland
