Leisure Activities

Whatever the season, Malta offers you the wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors all year round. While sun and fun are Malta’s main attraction, sightseeing, sports and photography are leisure time alternatives that will make your visit even more exciting!

With a full programme of activities our leisure department will ensure that you can maximise your learning experience beyond the walls of the classroom. Enjoy our excursions to the ancient cities, take a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon off the Island of Comino or simply bask in the sun on one of our beautiful beaches.

Malta is fun and you’ll love the nightlife! Our team of young and dynamic Group Leaders and Guides will make sure that you get to know more about the Maltese Islands than you thought existed.
All our excursions are offered on private transport, our guides are fully approved by the Ministry of Tourism and our leisure team is made up of dedicated animators who enjoy dealing with our students at all times.

Academic Department

The Academic Department at am Language Studio is made up of an enthusiastic and dedicated team of teachers, headed by the Director of Studies and the Assistant Director of Studies. Certified by the Ministry of Education to teach English to foreign speakers, am Language School teachers are all first language speakers, some of which are British and American, bringing to the school an interesting cultural mix. Coming from diverse walks of life such as education, business, law, politics, banking, the teachers bring to the classroom their life-long experience, adding an individual and personal element to the class atmosphere.

As course syllabus, am Language Studio follows the latest editions of the Headway and English File series published by Oxford University Press. Additional reinforcement and consolidation is supported by corresponding work books and student progress is monitored. Teacher-assisted sessions in the Language Lab allow innovative practice of skills and structures learnt at the individual pace of the learner. Teachers are encouraged to target their learners' needs and design the lesson material accordingly, using supplementary material whenever appropriate. With students' best interests in mind, teachers understand the importance of autonomous learning as a life-long skill, and best direct and coach students towards this aim.

Placement Test:

• Adults - You will be sent a Placement Test to complete to determine your level of English. This test must be returned to us prior to arrival. Failure to return the test will mean completing the test on your first day at school resulting in the possible loss of your first 4 lessons at your own expense. No refund will be offered by am Language Studio.

Public Holidays 2009:

• 10th February, 19th March, 31st March, 10th April, 1st May, 7th June, 29th June, 15th August, 8th September, 21st September, 8th December, 13th December.
• Days over Christmas and New Year when am Language Studio will be closed:
• Thursday, 25th December, Friday 26th December 2008, Thursday 1st January and Friday 2nd January 2009 - am Language Studio will be closed on every public holiday. If any lessons fall on a public holiday any lost lesson time will be spread over the remaining days of the same week.

Force Majeure:

• In the event that am Language Studio is unable to fulfil any of its obligations as a result of an event/events beyond am Language Studio’s reasonable control, am Language Studio will not accept responsibility or liability. Such events will include (however will not be limited to); terrorist attacks, war or the threat of war, riots, industrial action, natural or manmade disasters, unusually adverse weather conditions or any other event/events that may classify Malta as an “at risk destination” by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Cancellation Policy:

• In the event that you cancel your booking, the following charges will apply:
• More than 7 days notice: 25% of your total cost as a cancellation fee.
• 7 to 3 days notice: 30% of your total cost as a cancellation fee.
• Less than 3 days notice: the full price will be charged.
• No refunds are given after commencement of the respective English course.
• No course changes will be allowed to make up for refunds in the case of course cancellations.
• In case of a student visa refusal, am Language Studio will charge 120.00 Euro cancellation fee. This will cover registration, placement and other administration charges.
• In the case of Online Payments the remaining balance will be credited to the same credit card that made the original payment.
• Changes to bookings are considered to be cancellations.

Complaints Procedure:

• If, at any time throughout their course, students are not happy with any area of their stay, they are to fill in a Complaint Form which they may obtain from Reception. An End-of-Stay Evaluation Form will also be given to students to evaluate the level of satisfaction of our customers at the end of their programme.
• No complaint can be accepted by am Language Studio after the end of the relevant course if it has not been brought to our attention as explained above.

Expulsion:

• am Language Studio expects all its students to be well-motivated, polite and considerate towards members of staff, host families and fellow students at all times.
• am Language Studio reserves the right to ask any student who does not comply with any of the above to leave the course. In this case, no refund of fees will be made and any extra costs incurred by the school on the behalf of the student will be charged to the student.

Loss of Property/Insurance:

am Language Studio will not be held responsible for loss or theft of any student’s property from the school or accommodation or from any other location. Student’s property is the sole responsibility of the student at all times. am language Studio advises students to take out a travel insurance policy which would cover them throughout their stay in Malta.
